Ergon's Jimmy Rasco Presented with International Honor

Mon., Feb 1, 2016

Jackson, Miss.—Ergon, Inc., announced today Vice President - Global Base Oil Technology Jimmy Rasco was presented the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) International Charles A. Johnson Award.

This annual award is presented to a single member of the ASTM Committee D27 on Electrical Insulating Liquids and Gases for substantial contributions made in the development and implementation of international manufacturing and compliance standards. Through his membership in D27, and more specifically his chairing of the D27.01 Subcommittee on Mineral Oils, Rasco has made significant contributions toward new standards for regulating virgin and recycled mineral oils as they relate to electrical insulating liquids.

“Ergon has a vested interest in the analysis and specification of these standards as a major manufacturer and global supplier of transformer oils through its HyVolt Insulating Oil series,” said Rasco. “Even though we don’t produce recycled insulating oils, they will be entering our markets and it’s important for us to be a part of the discussion in helping to outline the governing standards.”

Rasco is a graduate of Alcorn State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He has been an active member of the refining industry for more than four decades and a part of the Ergon family for 21 years. In 1994, Rasco joined Ergon Refining, Inc., as a technical service manager and later elevated to Vice President – Product Services before assuming his current title in 2009. Today, he serves an integral role in the Petroleum Specialties Marketing Division within Ergon, Inc. He also leads the Product Services Division providing research and development, and quality control services to Ergon Refining, Inc., which is the largest naphthenic oil refinery in the world, as well as Ergon – West Virginia, Inc., which produces Group I and Group II specialty oils and wax products.

“We are very proud of Jimmy for his diligent effort to promote Ergon’s global objectives in transformer oil,” said Lance Puckett, Ergon, Inc., Vice President of Petroleum Specialties Marketing Division—The Americas. “His dedication to being active in ASTM not only ensures Ergon products meet and exceed the highest of quality standards but helps to distinguish us on a global scale as a center for excellence in manufacturing.”

The Charles A. Johnson Award is not the only distinction Rasco has received during his time at Ergon. He was awarded the Service Award in 2011 by the ASTM Committee D27, which governs electrical insulating liquids and gases, for his active engagement in reviving and renewing a number of D27 standards.

In addition to his multiple roles within ASTM International, Rasco also actively participates in several other international organizations including the American Chemical Society, American National Standards Institute, International Council on Large Electrical Systems, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, International Council on Large Electric Systems and the International Electrotechnical Commission.
